Overview
Machame route also known as “whiskey route” is regarded as the most beautiful route up the Kilimanjaro. It is a tougher route than Marangu. The varied height profile allows for good acclimatization; the number of summit successes is therefore high.
The trek begins at Machame Gate located in the southern base of mountain, within its lush fertile rain forest. The route heads toward the Shira plateau, before circling along the Southern circuit halfway around the mountain, exposing the climber to great views from all angles. The approach to the summit is made from the East and the descent follows the Mweka trail.
Accommodation is at camping sites in tents.

Itinerary
After breakfast you will be transited to Machame Gate. Your guide will work on Gate formalities and once done you will start trekking through a montane jungle trees. After about 5-6 hours you will arrive to your Camp for dinner and overnight stay. (Lunch and Dinner).
Your route continues on up through the forest until you begin the steep ascent onto the Shira Plateau with its rewarding views of the mountain. Looking back, you will be able to see in the distance Mount Meru rising high above Arusha City (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).
On day 3 you will ascend about. 800m but spend the night only slightly higher than the previous night. This allows your body a better acclimatization for the further climb. The hike begins with a long ascent over the Shira Plateau to the Lava tower. Here the landscape becomes barren of vegetation and into an alpine desert. The path leads through the extensive Barranco Valley, with its lobelias. After approximately 6-7 hours you will reach the Barranco Camp, which many claim is the most beautiful Camp on the mountain. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).
This route is somehow short, you will descend through the Barranco Wall, where there is some light climbing and to some point you must scramble (use your hands to support). The route will take you through small streams. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).
You will wake up around mid-night, grab quick snacks and then ascend to the Summit. By sunrise you will reach the crater rim of Kibo at Stella Point about an hour away from the Summit. After taking pictures at the Summit and congratulating one another, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for a short break then head for Mweka Camp for a decent sleep. (Snacks, Lunch and Dinner).
After Breakfast you will walk through the rain forest for about 2-3 hours to the Mweka Gate where you will find the driver waiting. You will part ways with the rest of the mountain crew. On reaching your Hotel, self-retreat awaits you. Later in the evening, your guide and the office representative will join you for hearty congratulations on your achievements and summit certificate ceremony. (Breakfast).
